You Will Need
  • 3-4 pound pork shoulder
  • 1 packet Riega® Organic French Onion Dip & Dressing Mix
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken or beef broth
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • 6-8 French rolls or hoagie buns
  • 12-16 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil (optional, for searing)
  • Riega® Salt and pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder and onion powder to taste
Directions
  1. Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels. Season all sides of the pork with salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder, pressing gently to help it stick.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a large Dutch oven or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add seasoned pork shoulder. Sear for 2-3 minutes per side, until a deep golden-brown crust forms. Set aside.
  3. Place sliced onions and garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker. Place the seared pork shoulder on top.
  4. Pour in broth and Worcestershire sauce around the pork. Add the Riega Organic French Onion Mix over everything. Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours or HIGH for 5-6 hours, until the pork is tender.
  5. Once the pork is tender, remove from slow cooker and shred, discarding excess fat.
  6. Split your bread and layer with pork, onions, and cheese. Broil for 1-2 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve warm with individual bowls of savory au jus for dipping.
